Jordan and I, and a couple of our best friends, have been planning to backpack into Havasupai for nearly an entire year! And when we're a week away from departure, we get an email from the Havasupai tribe leaders saying they're keeping Havasupai closed to tourist until June because of SWINE FLU!!! Seriously, we're sooo...disappointed!
But, our original plans included a two night hotel stay at the Grand Canyon, which is already paid in full and non-refundable, as are our flights into Vegas! So, we're having to do some juggling, and are crossing our fingers that we'll be able to get one of the very few "Day of" backcountry permits at the Grand Canyon (since all of their advance reservations fill-up a year in advance)! So, cross your fingers for us! And, if the Grand Canyon doesn't work out...there's always Vegas...which, I think, our friends are secretly hoping for!!!
Look at all our stuff...I'm semi-nervous about having to carry all this stuff on my back! Especially since the hike we're hoping to get a permit for has a 4000+ change in elevation!!!
Umm...I'm the first to admit that I'm not the toughest girl...in fact, I'll even admit that I'm pretty wimpy. But, seriously, this pack HAS to weigh more than the 20 lbs that the scale claimed!! I don't know how I'll do 20 miles with it on my back! It's pretty much as full as it's gonna be when we hike, and this could be the only picture you see of me SMILING with that attached to my body!
These could be my favorite find for this backpacking trip...It's a plate, bowl and mug set that folds completely flat! Oragami at its finest!!
